Privacy Policy for SafeMe – Emergency Location Sharing and Loud Siren
Effective Date: These Terms are effective as of June 1, 2025, and apply from the moment you install or use the SafeMe app.
Your privacy matters. SafeMe is a personal safety app developed and maintained by an individual developer. This Privacy Policy explains how SafeMe collects, stores, uses, and protects your data in compliance with privacy regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
By using the app, you agree to the terms outlined below.
1. Developer Information
SafeMe is developed and maintained by an independent developer and is not affiliated with any company, organization, or legal entity. All references to "we", "us", or "our" in this Privacy Policy refer to the individual developer operating the SafeMe app.
While the app is designed with user privacy and safety in mind, it is offered on an as-is basis, and the developer assumes no liability for misuse or unauthorized use of the app.
2. Information We Collect
SafeMe collects only the minimum necessary data to operate emergency features and enhance user experience:
- Email Address and Username: Collected during account setup to personalize the app and associate emergency contact settings with your profile.
- Emergency Contacts: You can manually add trusted contacts (name and phone number). This data is stored securely in Firebase FireStore and is used solely for sending emergency messages.
- Location (GPS): Accessed only when you trigger an emergency alert to share your real-time location with your contacts.
- SMS and Social Sharing: Used to send emergency alerts to your contacts via SMS or any social apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Viber, etc
- Device Permissions: The app requires access to your location, SMS, and internet to function as described above.
3. How Your Data Is Used
We use your data only to provide core emergency features:
- Send Emergency Alerts: Your location, and pre-configured message are sent to your emergency contacts.
- Location Sharing: When activated, the app access and shares your real-time location through your selected social apps.
- Cloud Storage (Firebase): Your profile (username, email) and emergency contacts are stored securely in Google Firebase Firestore to ensure your settings persist across devices.
We do not use your data for advertising or third-party tracking.
4. Data Storage and Security
- Firebase Firestore (Google): We use Firebase, a secure cloud database provided by Google, to store limited personal information (e.g., username, email, and emergency contacts).
- Encryption: Data stored in Firebase is encrypted in transit and at rest.
- No Unauthorized Sharing: We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties.
5. Your Rights and Choices
You have rights over your personal data, including:
- Right to Access: You can request to view the data we store about you.
- Right to Deletion: You can delete that your stored profile within the app at any time. Doing so will permanently remove all data related to your profile,including emergency contacts, activity logs, and custom emergency message.
- Right to Correction: You may update or modify your emergency contacts or user profile within the app.
- Right to Restrict Sharing: You control when and with whom your location and emergency alerts are shared.

6. Children’s Privacy
SafeMe is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or under 16 where required by applicable laws). We do not knowingly collect personal information from users under this age.
By using SafeMe, you confirm that you are at least 13 years old. If we become aware that we have unintentionally collected personal information from a child without parental consent, we will delete such data as quickly as possible.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted in the app or website, and the “Effective Date” will be revised accordingly. Continued use of SafeMe after changes means you accept the updated policy.
